A Backyard Garden Party in Pound Ridge New York

I love community and I am energized by others. I love hearing stories… and celebrating other businesses. I love geeking out about making small sustainable choices… I love these types of events. I only wish they lasted longer. My co-host @northernwestchestermoms is an incredible community builder!

Special thanks to elvis events for the yummy vegan spread audra cedrone for makeup and @lovelyandtalented for capturing some incredible photos.

I had the pleasure of co-hosting a garden party at my home this past weekend. The rain stopped just in time to party. I wanted people in my yard, because it is where my family spends the most time. We live outdoors— even in the winter we will huddle around the fire and let my toddler find natural treasures (he has an affinity for rocks right now).

Because we live outside, we wanted our outdoor space to shine. We added a little pavilion, used TimberTech recycled decking to create the deck of our dreams, a hand made fire pit out of local materials, LED landscape lights, cafe lights and solar lanterns to make our evening soirees feel special. There is landscaping as well… but that is for another email.

The deck is a favorite of mine, because it ADDS value to your home. That’s right. It builds extra equity in your home if they are in good shape, and low maintenance. In real estate, we call it additional square footage. Since it is attached to your indoor space, it is usually becomes additional living space.

We choose TimberTech because of what they do for sustainability. The core of their recycled decks are made with recycled plastics, which is incredible (I am attaching a pic below). Selecting this type of deck means less maintenance, a warranty for 20+ years, and diverts plastic from the landfill. It also means less fumes from paint or stain, which a wood deck needs every few years.

The negative with this type of decking? It can get hot. It is plastic after all. I recommend also getting an awning and putting it out during the time of day where it gets the hottest. What is great about an awning is, when your deck is the hottest, that area of your home typically is also. An awning will help reduce the amount of heat that enters, and thus will help curb your energy bills (you’ll need less a/c). Mine is electric and controlled by remote. I always recommend getting a system you will use.

How else do we add equity? Creating defined spaces for people to hang out, helps tell your story to a potential buyer, and/or your guests. So create those spaces, have fun, and build that equity!

The market is still a slow moving road. If you have real estate goals within the next 1-2 years, it is a good time to chat with me. Wether buying or selling, we can create a plan for when you are ready for your dream.

Thank you to all those who came out to the Garden Party. It was so special to have such incredible people and businesses represented. If you missed it, please join in on the next one!

Growing up as a contractor’s daughter, the smell of sawdust and the hum of renovation projects were just part of my everyday life. I didn’t just witness homes being built—I watched dreams take shape, families settle in, and legacies form one project at a time. That upbringing gave me an eye for detail, a passion for design, and an appreciation for how a home can shape the way we live.

Growing up as a contractor's daughter, I was immersed in the world of construction and renovation from day one. While other kids were playing house with dolls, I was learning about foundation repair, watching walls come down, and seeing spaces transform from the ground up. Those early experiences taught me to see beyond what exists and envision what could be—a skill that would prove invaluable in my real estate career.
